If you ask a group of people what the perfect home temperature is, you will get an array of answers. The same thing goes if you ask them the perfect temperature for sleeping. However, there are several studies that show that there is an ideal temperature for your home when it’s time to fall asleep.
According to sleep.org, the best temperature for falling asleep is between 60 and 67. As your bed prepares for sleep, your own body temperature drops, and a colder home temperature can help your body prepare for sleep as well. If you have small children in your home, the ideal sleeping temperature is between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you have a programmable thermostat, you can schedule your home’s temperature to drop each night at a certain time, or you can simply lower it yourself each night before you head to bed. Choose a temperature that is within the ideal sleeping range, but that is not too far from your home’s daily temperature. For example, if your home is usually set at 72 degrees during the day, lower it to 68-70 at night.
If you find yourself tossing and turning at night, or if you tend to wake up covered in sweat, maybe your home is too hot for you to get a good night’s sleep. Lower your thermostat a few degrees and see if that helps!
